—————————————

The Show Must Go On is a new documentary highlighting the Dance Umbrella graduates of 2021.

The Dance Umbrella Spring Showcase has been an annual landmark in the cultural landscape of Nelson and area for decades. However, with Covid cancelling one event after the other over the past 18 months, graduating dancers have continued preparing for their final showcase for two years in a row with no place to share the results of years of training, passion and creativity.

In response to these cancellations, SIFCo decided to produce a documentary to showcase the amazing work being carried out by The Dance Umbrella Nelson and its students.

The resulting film is a beautiful, entertaining and intimate look at what commitment, mentorship, camaraderie, and the sheer joy and discipline of movement and expression can bring about in a small mountain town in British Columbia, Canada.

Enjoy the movie from the comfort of your home – come in your PJs or in your best fancy dress! Bring tea or wine. Join us from wherever you are in the world!

The Film Premiere will be followed by a facilitated zoom chat at 8:15pm on Dec 17th with the dancers and Dance Umbrella teachers/choreographers. This is your chance to connect “almost in person” – as you would in the Capitol Theatre lobby after the annual spring showcases… to share your impressions, to ask questions, to hang out together for a while.

Dance Umbrella is a non-profit society specializing in dance classes for students of all ages in many genres. Since Dance Umbrella’s inception in 1997 it has been at the forefront of promoting the art of dance in Nelson BC, as the largest and longest established dance school in the community instructing dance to thousands of students over the years.
